I Bought an Audi RS2 Avant - The Coolest Fast Wagon Ever!

I think I'm more excited for this car than any car I've owned before. A decade-long dream fulfilled!!!

The first (and even rarer) fast wagon of this type was the BMW E34/5S M5 touring in 1992 with 335 hp.

actually the volvo 850 turbo was the first i remember. it was faster than the bmw 325

Hey mate, here a sugestion: I am from The Netherlands and over here several are driving around. I live near the city Waalwijk and over there is the importer for almost all German brands called "Van Mossel Waalwijk". They have a lot of experience with RS 2. Maybe you can contact them for some more information. It's one of the biggest carimporters of Europe, so maybe they know a good American dealer for you. Good luck with the car mate, looks really nice for a 25+

I still remember being overtaken by one in Leicester UK, back in 1992. I was gobsmacked and fell in love with it instantly, The contrast of the blue paint and red tail lights was indeed a thing of beauty back then!

We in Europe yawn when we see Audi details from old Audis and Doug is excited like "check the window lift button lights up when you activate it" .. That 5 cylinder engine is constructed in the 70's, and its one of the first engines where somebody put turbo on it. Google type 43 200 turbo

The grandkids of this car don't disappoint. A few days ago there was an Audi A4 Quattro towing a truck on snowy roads.

Doug, my old '97 Eclipse with a small 16g turbo would take to about 3200 RPM to hit full boost. By all means, at the time that was a fast-spooling turbo compared to other modified Japanese cars with much bigger turbos, but there was still some lag. I was making about 350 whp at 20 psi of boost and I still have the datalog from the track where I went 0-60 in 3.7 seconds (11.91 @ 115 mph). The trick is to rev up to 7500 RPM and just dump the clutch. Hopefully you have something strong like an ACT 2600 clutch, and a slightly modified drivetrain that won't just break when you launch it. The car will start going sideways before it starts to go forward, but that's a good sign, because it means all 4 wheels are spinning. I've never gotten a faster launch out of an AWD car.

Actually Ferdinand Porsche engineered the Beatle, the first VW car and helped to build the "Autostadt Wolfsburg" - the main production facility/town for VW. He mainly started VW and of course Porsche. And there is Ferdinand Piëch, the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche. He was an engineer at Porsche, VW (Volkswagen EA 266) and Audi (Audi 100 5E, Audi Quattro), did engineering work for Daimler Benz (Mercedes 240 D 3.0) and become later Chairman of the Audi AG in 1985. So it's not that Porsche needed money alone as they helped to build the Audi RS2 , but also the relationship between these german car manufacturers (Porsche, Audi, VW). And as we know they all belong to the Volkswagen AG today.

Wonder if you know the Audi 200 turbos from the eighties. Same basic engine, same turbolag.

Why does he throughout this entire video COMPLETELY disregard the BMW E34 Touring M5...??? He says this is BY FAR the most powerful station wagon etc throughout the entire video, but the fact is the 3,8 L M5 was introduced in 92(!) and they came as station wagons since 92 also... The Audi has 315 hp but the 3,8 M5 had 340, which is MORE. Then how is the Audi "BY FAR the most powerful"....? What's his deal? I'm not a fan of this guy, but he knows his stuff... So why does he forget the first M5 estate, as if it's something super rare no one has heard about...?

Hello Sir. The RS2 is a cool car, but you claim it's the original power wagon. Did you forget to mention the BMW E34 M5 Touring? They came in 1992 with a 3.8 inline six/340 hp :-)

Fold the rear seat flat. I laugh at it. Thats not flat. Opel Omega B, had a real flat foldable rear seat. No stupid rear seatbottom folding, only the back part and perfect flat 190cm bed. Also, Omega had cargo cover and many other things.

I got the thrill of seeing one of this brand new in Ingolstadt in the 90’s. I was the weird car kid who loved German cars, especially the wolf in sheep’s clothing type of cars. This was one of my favorite cars from that era, so seeing it while visiting Audi’s new delivery center in Ingolstadt was a huge thrill! Congrats, Doug, excellent choice. please stop saying porsche, dont try to make it sound like it is said in germany it just sounds stupid. The turbo is from the porsche turfbo 3.3. And till tpoday i never had a car that had such a bad miles per gallon. he took 40 l per 100 kilometers PS it is called RS blue because it is allso porsaches colour which they used on the RS. A really sad performance from the audi service. A nd dont vory about the engine, it will never fail you. IF you come to a point when you cant find something, get back to me. enjoy

I´ve been skiing with this car in Switzerland. What can I say. No snow on the Road, strict speed limits, but lots of salt. The Audi was realy sad he couldn´t do what he is supposed to do. To go 125 through Powder Snow.

There is only 1 mistake in this video the RS2 wasn´t the first performance wagon from germany. 1992 came the BMW E34 M5 wagon even if they sold only 891 of them. But still this is a great car one of the few Audis i realy like and a true future classic.

If you ever have a problem finding spare parts in the USA at an Audi dealer, contact me, just leave a comment underneath, I'm Polish and I live in the Netherlands, we have a lot of Audi showrooms in Europe, I am living 4km from one of them, and every dealer know very well what RS2 is :) I can logistically help with shipping any spare part. In the Netherlands, everyone speaks English, so you can easily do the rest by phone :)

Hi Doug!! Congrats on the purchase of one of Europe's finest! Noticed the front seats have a seatback release catch - Porscke 911 seatbacks perhaps?

Both Porsche and Audi are part of Volkswagen, so I'd imagine Audi got VW to exert some influence with getting Porsche to build the RS2.
